Homeopathy is a system of medicine which is safe for all the family. People coming to a homeopath usually do so regarding a specific issue with their health or with a certain aspect of their life such as their relationships, confidence or a feeling of being 'stuck' in some way. There is a strong movement towards the idea of taking responsibility for our own health which has brought holistic methods of healing to the fore. Homeopathy is fantastic for using at home for minor ailments and injuries (I run a basic course covering the principles of homeopathy and home remedies). For more chronic issues a professional homeopath can provide support and help for physical, emotional or mental ailments as remedies provide support on all levels.
Symptoms represent the body's attempt to heal itself and show that the system is out of balance. So whereas diagnostic disease labels are helpful to a GP, a homeopath will work with a patient to see how their symptoms affect them, what patterns occur in their life and what the patient would like to work on. Pain and dis-ease, particularly long-term chronic disease affects not just the body but also the mind - for instance long-term pain or worry can make even a naturally optimistic person more prone to depression or anxiety and can restrict how they live their life.
In consultation, the homeopath works with the patient to see what might be possible and discusses the approach to be taken. A remedy is carefully selected to match the symptoms and communication is a key issue here so that the homeopath can know and understand the patient's reaction to the remedy.
